Starting a Tutoring Business: Business Plan

“If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail” — Benjamin Franklin

Ready to start your tutoring business?

Whether it's to supplement your current income or you simply love teaching that much (I don't blame you on either), NOW is the perfect time to get started. If you're already a teacher, believe it or not, you are ahead of the game. If you aren't currently a teacher, no worries, I'm here to help. 😊

Transparent Moment. Several years, a friend suggest that I start tutoring after seeing my success in the classroom. I was super hesitant because I honestly didn't think I could do it.

I know it sounds crazy because I was a middle school math teacher, who would just be doing what I've already been doing (hopefully that makes sense). Researching what other tutors were charging only created more excuses why I thought I couldn't do it.

Eventually took the leap of faith (Proverbs 3:5-6). 💚 I'd love to tell you that I started making tons of money and people were chasing me down to tutor their kids but that didn't happen. I remember only having O-N-E student and earning about $100 per month. Not per hour. Not per week. Per month!

I know that isn't the most encouraging story, but I now realize that my business wasn't successful because I never treated it as a business. It was just something I occasionally did after school that made me a little (very little) money.

My advice to you? Treat your tutoring business as a BUSINESS.

And to help you not make the same mistake as me, I've created a simple Tutoring Business Plan to get you thinking about things you've probably never consider.

I get it - you have the teaching part on lock but have no clue how to monetize a skill you use daily.

While I don't have all the answers, I am willing to share the tool, tips, and tricks that I've learned along the way.

Our Tutoring Business Plan helps you brainstorm about:

  • Your mission statement.
  • Your core values.
  • New skills you will need to learn in order to help you business be successful.
